Claire-Ania Virgile (b. 1997) is a PhD candidate in English studies and a self-taught photographer of Indo-Martinican origin.
Her passion for ancestral practices and photography unite to depict a unique syncretism, reflecting her "in-between" identity due to her African and Indian ancestry. Her academic research focuses on the memory of Caribbean women of Indian descent. She published an article in GERFLINT Synergies Inde 11 “Voyages transocéaniques” journals.
Virgile is the author of Sacred Vision, a photo book exploring Indo-Rastafari. Sacred Vision delves into a mystical culture often on the fringes of official history, allowing us to envision collective memory by blending heritage, influences, and encounters in a postcolonial society. Her photographs were first exhibited in a solo show on May 6, 2022, during the commemoration of the arrival of the first Indians in Martinique.
In 2024, she traveled to India and participated in an international conference at Mumbai University, enriching her research and photographic practice.
